DONALD DEANE SHARPE
EARLY RESIDENTS 2025
My father Donald Deane Sharpe served as president of the Vista School Board and was also an officer in the Vista Chamber of Commerce. He also did some nice things for the students of VHS like donating a new VW type 3 sedan in the 1960s, replacing the old 1949 Plymouth stick that we all learned on in Driver's Ed class.
He also hosted the VHS Sr. Class parties after the Proms or Graduations at our house on Tower Drive. He owned Vista Motor Imports, which was run by my mother, Ruth Sharpe, who was also in the Triple M Club, and some years later she became president of the LPGA in San Diego County,
We moved to Vista in 1950 to our house on Tower Drive, then to a home on Alta Vista. Then we leased a home on Thibodeau Ranch while my folks' new house was being built. If my memory serves me correct, I think my mom and dad lived in Vista until 1966 or 67.
We had an avocado grove on our house on Tower Drive, where my brother Steve and I worked hard with Dad, but we had a lot of good times. Some of my folks' best friends were Bob and Marge Crozier, Don and Doris Heffer, Don and Pat Martinson and the Fatheringhams (there were a lot of them in Vista then).
Some of my favorite memories were watching the VHS Friday night football games with players like Bill Leath and other talented players, then going to the A& W drive-in.
